- A finished face without painting: use melamine.
- Structural or outdoor-covered work: use plywood.

MDF or plywood for kitchen cupboards?
MDF gives a smoother face for paint and machining; plywood holds screws better and copes better with knocks. In areas that get wet, use HMR board or PVC eco board instead of ordinary MDF.
How do I check MDF quality?
Measure the thickness in a few places and look at the edge: it should be even and dense, without soft or crumbly patches. A University of Sri Jayewardenepura study found that MDF quality varies between Colombo dealers, which is why every sheet on our rack can be checked before you pay.
